Garth is currently studying towards a doctorate in electrical engineering at EIT with an interest area in virtual power stations, the integration of renewable energy and smart grids.

Most of his career, however, was spent in the financial markets both in an advisory a capacity and within banks.  He spent time at Deloitte where he was a partner and was the CEO of the Bond Exchange of South Africa (the organised debt market in South Africa).

After spending time in the treasury at Eskom, Garth founded an electricity trading and aggregation business from which he exited after selling his interest to a JSE listed company.

He is currently focused on an electricity related technology business, Voltig, and sees the application of technology as the solution to the management of an increasingly complex grid.

His spare time is spent either reading or outdoors, mostly open-water swimming.  His academic background is in law, economics and maths. He is based in Cape Town.
